Benefits of Exercise

It’s time to get moving! Research shows that regular exercise can improve your health, confidence and quality of life. We know that reduced or no physical activity can have serious health consequences. Research has shown even a small amount of physical activity can lower the risk of developing major chronic diseases, such as coronary heart disease stroke, some cancers and type two diabetes.

Physical activity not only improves your health but can also boost mental wellbeing and change your outlook on life.

The NHS recommended activity levels

  • Adults: 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity at least five days a week.
  • Children: 60 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity each day.

Benefits of physical activity include:

  • Better health
  • More energy
  • Reduced stress levels
  • Increased bone density and stronger muscles
  • Better balance, strength, flexibility and joint mobility
  • Improved sleep
  • Improved body shape and muscle tone
  • Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight
  • A sense of achievement

Inactive lifestyles

People are less active nowadays partly because technology has made our lives easier. We move around less, and burn off less energy than we used to. We drive cars or take buses and we entertain ourselves in front of a TV or computer screen. Most of us have jobs that involve little physical effort and this means we are static for most of our day. We need to think about increasing the types of activities that suit our lifestyle and that can easily be included in our day.

Finding an activity you love doing is the key to sticking to your exercise routine. Please look at the Types of Exercise we provide and then visit the Timetables to find a class time that suits you!
